Yest November on 2 , 2006, Hitesh Sethi, my roommate, for last 4 years got married. It has been great journey together and we enjoyed every bit of time spent. Now from today I will be staying alone..Mein aur meri tanhayi !!
Well we had known each other during our MBA times but his group of friends and mine were different. After getting a job in Mumbai, I had no place to stay. I knew he was staying with another person. I called him and instantly he said come and stay with me.
After initial days in Chembur we shifted to Andheri. Till date it was the best decision we took. Andheri West has been one of the best places I have ever stayed in. It had everything, good eating places, good malls, good multiplexes, good pubs, good hang out places. We got along well instantly. We shared the same passion, Sports, movies, music, books , bikes, fitness ,talking, gossping, and many more things. Behavior wise we were extremes, he was a spender and I was a bit reluctant spender. Still we enjoyed ourselves.
There are few instances I remember I remember as it happened yest.
We used to stay in Chembur earlier, and one day at twelve in night we had an urge to eat ice cream. We took our bike and went to an ice cream parlor in Ghatkhoper. We were in our night dress. While going I told him that I had not taken my wallet. He said don’t worry I have mine and have sufficient money in it. We reached the ice cream center and started eating ice cream. The center was closing down so we decide to pay and eat ice cream later. When we counted money, it was less than required. As Hitesh had never any money left in his account after the 5th of any month, it was of no use to go to the ATM. Now at twelve in the night, we both dressed in the worst possible clothes, were without money to pay for the ice cream. Hitesh said he will go home and get my wallet which had money. He left. It was the longest time taken ever by me to eat ice cream. Ha ha. I must have given him so many gallis till the time he returned. In the end shopkeeper thought that i was never going to pay. When I saw him return with the wallet, I gave a sigh of relief. He took half an hour to get money. Now whenever we go to have an ice cream, we check our wallets before we leave our home J.
One other habit we had was to get up at any point of time in the night and go to Marine Drive for a long drive. Take our bike and enjoy the ride. Go to Marine Drive, sit there for a while, eat ice cream at Bachelors Chow patty and then return home in wee hours.
We had passion for eating good non vegetarian food. He like eating at places which had great ambience & good food and I liked places with great food and decent ambience. But one of the places both liked the most is ‘Bade Miyaan’ behind Taj near Gateway of India. We relished all the dishes there.
Another passion was movies. We have seen a movie every weekend. Sometime 2 movies each weekend. We have seen the worse movies in best places and best movies in worse places and enjoyed our discussions on the movie after returning after the late night shows.
The best part of our friendship was were never interfered in each other lives but we knew that whenever we needed a friend to talk, the other one was there. He was one of the smartest & stylish people I knew. He had an attitude but was never arrogant. That was his confidence and never to give up attitude. Keep it up Man !! Only thing I wished I could change about him is spending habit.
I wish Hitesh & Shilpa Sethi, A Happy And Wonderful Life ahead filled with lots of love and happiness.
